You don’t need to stick to your old ways anymore. You can live the way you want and no longer are constrained by how your choices used to limit you. When you compare yourself to others, or when you do tasks and commitments that don’t fit who you are, it’s at those moments when you get clarity about what types of ideal lifestyle you want and how your life should be. You then ask yourself: “What do I want my life to be like?” and “Who do I want to be in it?”
This ensures we can pursue the things we intensely care about and enjoy in life, without worrying about the money or time required to do those things.
It’s about spending your time more wisely, doing what you love, becoming someone you can be proud of, doing things for others and simply being happy and contented with every day of your life.
1. Get into the habit of thinking backwards
Successful people have developed the habit of first thinking about what they want to be and then working backwards. It is important to learn how to succeed inevitably, rather than succeeding just by somehow doing it.
2. Be aware of death
The ultimate backward thought is to be aware of death. Our life ends with death. Understand that life is given, but it is a limited time. If you are not aware of death like this, you will procrastinate on doing what you need to do and end up ending your life without doing it. The biggest risk in reaching ideal lifestyle is leaving this world with a bunch of regrets and trying to do something and failing is not a risk.
3. Make your ideal
If you don’t know what your ideal is, try the “Limits of Happiness” work. How to do it is very simple. Draw a line down the middle of the paper and add, “If this happens, you’ll be
happy if it happens, it’ll be great if it happens,” and at the bottom add this: “If this happens, you’ll be unhappy if it happens, you’re going to hate it.” When you draw boundaries like this, you naturally see your own barometer.
4. Remove mental blocks
In psychology, there is something called the “Elephant Syndrome” which prevents growth.
Elephants are raised in India as a source of energy. It is used for agricultural work and transport. The reason why smart and strong elephants don’t run away and are controlled by elephants is because they learn and it inhibits them mentally. The learning effect is negative. The same goes for people.
To remove these mental blocks, you must acknowledge their existence and redefine (reframe) them. First of all, many people limit themselves by not being able to do it, but let’s not limit ourselves now and think that this is the goal.
Another is changing the definition of failure. We tend to think that success and failure are always on opposite sides of the coin, but change that way of thinking. Activists believe that the opposite of success is doing nothing and that failure is just a process of action.
The opposite of success is not failure, but doing nothing. If you think about risk, you should take it lower by weighing the risk of doing it and the risk of not doing it. We tend to only think about the risks of doing something, so in the end we tend not to do it. This is the big reason of forgetting your ideal lifestyle.
People are bound by the same rope from childhood. Adult elephants can easily tear the rope, but children cannot. So when the child tries to escape many times and finds that it never cuts itself, the smart elephant learns a lesson and puts the brakes on psychologically. The learning effect is negative. The same goes for people.
5. Make work your friend
When you graduate from school and enter society, you have to work, except for those who are very blessed. You will spend a lot of time at work.
There are many people who define work as something they don’t enjoy and think they can make money doing something they don’t enjoy. The real joy of work is providing value that makes people happy and being rewarded for it.
6. Continue to grow
For those who continue to grow, there are two weapons. The first is honesty. Many people lose money by not being honest. A trap brilliant people tend to fall into is denying or criticizing others in order to prove their own excellence. If you do that, you’ll feel like you’re somehow excellent, but you won’t be able to learn anything.
The second is the ability to take 100% responsibility for everything that happens in your life. It is the biggest way to get your ideal lifestyle. Thinking internal factors instead of thinking external factors. If you don’t make excuses, you can come up with an idea to change. Conversely, if you blame someone else, you won’t be able to change because you don’t need to change. To be a person who can grow and to be a person to be trusted.
7. Keep learning
The most effective investment is yourself. The 20s are the investment generation. If people who didn’t work hard in their 20s want to catch up to people in their 30s and 40s who worked hard in their 20s, they have to work 10x as hard. The investment will pay off within 20 years. Learning, however, with output priority. Many people are still “learning to learn” and are unable to take a step forward. Know that studying and reading are actually easy. From there, it’s much harder to act.
8. Increase activity
Check yourself to see if you are practicing what you have learned. When I’m done, I can say “I know” for the first time.
A characteristic of people who can continue to grow is that the first step is quick and they can put it into action immediately. Take the first step within 72 hours of what you think you should or should do. If you don’t do anything for 72 hours, you’ll either forget what you were trying to do or get bored.
9. Stop grazing
Most of the world maintains the status quo. When I try to do something new, these people hold me back. But if you want to do something, you have to distance yourself from the status quo group. Have the courage to leave the comfort of the herd. When you’re in a group like that, like-minded people come together and you don’t tear yourself apart. People who can grow are people who can step out of their comfort zone. You should step out of your comfort zone.
10. Break the first step
Getting past the first step is hard. But if you want to take a step forward, consider both the risks of doing it and the risks of not doing it, and ask yourself if you don’t feel like there’s a tomorrow. There is no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow just because it somehow exists.
People who have tomorrow have a responsibility to have tomorrow. Enriching ideal lifestyle is one of these duties. It can only be changed by action.
Are you striving for the best, can you finally give what you got there to others? Finally, Mr Hatching showed a picture of John F Kennedy’s famous words as “one of the most inspiring words”.
“People who think about what they can do for society, not what society can do for them.”
